According to the report, 73 per cent
of handsets registered on the UAE’s
networks between July 1st and Sep-
tember 30th 2013 were smartphones.
UAE users also made 13.7 billion vis-
its to social networking websites, with
visits to Facebook accounting for 91
per cent of the total.
Most used Phones
The report found that 56.2 percent of
the handsets in the UAE were manu-
factured by Nokia, Finland, followed
by Samsung of South Korea with 16.4
percent; the Canadian Blackberry
with 10.2 per cent; the American Ap-
ple with 7.8 percent, South Korea’s
LG with 1 percent, Japan’s Sony with
0.9 percent, Taiwan’s HTC with 0.6
percent and the Chinese Huawei with
0.5 percent.
Unlike Nokia and Blackberry, Sam-
sung and Apple showed rise in their
market shares during the third quarter
of 2013.
In terms of handset models, Nokia
101/1010 (4.1 per cent) was the
most popular mobile handset in UAE
in third quarter of 2013 surpassing
Nokia 1280/1282 which was the most
popular in the previous quarter. Nokia
1280/1282 was the second most
popular handset with (3.7 percent)
followed by both the Nokia X1 and
Nokia E5 with 3.0 percent. iPhone 5
came forth with 2.8 percent, followed
by Samsung S III (2.5 per cent);
iPhone 4S (2.3 per cent); the iPhone
4 and BlackBerry Bold 9900 (both 1.8
per cent); Samsung S4 (1.6); Galaxy
S Duos (1.2 per cent); BlackBerry
Bold 9790 (1.1 per cent) and Black-
Berry Bold 9780 (1.0 per cent).
The report findings also revealed

leased its report on the most popular mobile phone handsets and
social networking platforms in the UAE. The report provides details on
the current market shares of mobile phones in the country categorized
by manufacturer and model.
