Launch of
“Sharjah
Baby
Friendly
Emirate”
App
Students’ talent
to develop Dubai Police’s
awareness apps
His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Moham-
med Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Mem-
ber and Ruler of Sharjah, has attended the
launch ceremony of the electronic appli-
cation of “Sharjah Baby-Friendly Emirate”
Campaign.
The new app will contribute to introducing the
campaign to users of smartphones and tab-
lets inside and outside the country and con-
veying its messages and mission to a larger
audience across the globe.
The app is available for Android-operated de-
vices in English and Arabic. It was developed
by students of Khalifa University and consists
of four parts. The first contains tips on the
right way for mothers to breastfeed, and on
the healthy baby formula. The second part
introduces the Sharjah Baby Friendly Emir-
ate Campaign, its vision, mission and val-
ues. The third part is about the campaign’s
four initiatives: baby-friendly health facilities,
mother friendly workplace, breastfeeding
friendly nurseries and mother friendly public
place.
The fourth part contains contact details and
how to communicate with the campaign.
The Security Awareness Department of the General Department of So-
cial Services at Dubai Police seeks to utilize students talents in order to
develop mobile applications that carry awareness-raising, cultural and
security messages and serve the various segments of the community.
Col. Dr. Jasem Khalil Mirza, Director of Security Awareness, underlined
the significance of cooperation and coordination between the depart-
ment and the academic institutions in the country, particularly the Higher
College of Technology which comprises our talented students who are
studying the various fields of technology science. That’s what we are
looking for in Dubai Police in order to invest in our young innovative
talents in the technology science arena, he added.
The Dubai Police Smart Security Awareness Competition, launched by
the department, targets students of colleges and universities. Partici-
pants should produce a movie or a flash of a duration not less than 40
seconds to raise children awareness of four topics: sexual harassment,
how a child says no, traffic accidents and preventive measures, and
risks of addiction to drugs. The competition was launched in collabora-
tion with Ministry of Higher Education.
