In this issue, we review the website of the
Federal Electricity and Water Authority
(FEWA). The website aims to achieve the
Authority’s mission of providing electricity
and water services at distinct levels.
Following is a quick review of the website
in three main areas; Accessibility, Usabil-
ity and Design, and Content.
Accessibility:
Accessibility refers to providing a website
that is comaptible with a wide range of
web browsers. The URL should be easy
to remember and the website easily ac-
cessed through search engines. People
with special needs should be able to use
the website with no difficulty.

website in this regard:

we couldn’t reach the website through the
top Arabic domain (.

It appears among top results when
searching for phrases related to electric-
ity and water services.
It is compatible with different browsers
such as IE, Chrome and Firefox.
The font size tool available on the web-
site does not work properly. Clicking on it
barely changes the font size. It would be
useful if a text-to-speech tool is also im-
plemented to help the visually-impaired.
File attributes (i.e. file size and type) are
missing from downloadable files.
Usability and Design:
Usability refers to “The extent to which
a product can be used by specified us-
ers to achieve specified goals with effec-
tiveness, efficiency and satisfaction in a
specified context.” For websites, it could
be defined as the process of measuring
and managing ease of use for users in-
teracting with a website.
Following are a few remarks on the
website in this regard:
The homepage gives the user the option
to access some of the most used servic-
es. However, the images occupy a large
part of the homepage (screenshot 1).
There is no search tool on the website;
only a window to inquire about the bills.
