FedNET, a main pillar in the
mGovernment strategy
T
he Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) is developing
the federal electronic network (FedNET) which connects informa-
tion systems of 42 federal entities in the UAE. It will be a major plat-
form for developing both eGovernment and mGovernment.
mGovernment magazine interviewed Saeed Belhoul, Director of
eGovernment Operations at the TRA who said that FedNET is one of
the major strategic initiatives of mGovernment. It will help estab-
lish a common infrastructure that supports federal entities’ efforts to
achieve integration and eService flexibility and mobility.
Belhoul stressed that FedNET will help
raise levels of efficiency, security and
continuity of all government services. It
will raise security standards to record lev-
els and reduce cost of eServices through
linking all federal entities together.
In the following interview, eGovernment
Operations Director speaks about Fed-
NET and the services it provides.
Could you tell us more about Fed-
NET?
UAE Government seeks to be among
the top countries that offer electronic and
mobile services through innovative chan-
nels. TRA is working on translating this
vision in line with the UAE Vision 2021.
Government entities are facing a great
challenge to adopt mGovernment vision
to offer the best government services via
electronic channels. These services will
have many characteristics including flex
-
ibility, mobility and availability through
smart phones and tablets. FedNET re-
flects keenness to develop government
service using flexible and mobile elec
-
tronic channels. FedNET is one of the
main pillars of the mGovernment Strat-
egy developed by the TRA.
