Over 75% of all Android apps from the
Google Play Store will be compatible with
Nokia’s X series without modifications.
The apps which won’t be compatible are
the ones that rely on Google’s in-app pay-
ments, maps or push notifications, so ev
-
erything else will just work. As
for the remaining 25% that
are incompatible with
these devices, devel-
opers can use a port-
ing system which will
reportedly take up to
8 hours. Nokia also
has a system in place
where developers can
try uploading their APK
onto one of its sites to
check for compatibility with the
trio of Nokia X smartphones.
Rumors can spread quickly on social
media. A new project aims to figure out
how to identify whether they’re true or
not. Called Pheme, the project uses text-
mining technology to cull information
from large amounts of text data, such as
tweets. Rumors are classified based on
several factors, including how they were
spread and whether false statements
were spread intentionally. The project is
funded mostly by the European Union
with five universities and four compa
-
nies developing it. The aim is to help or-
ganizations, including governments and
emergency services, to respond more
effectively to events.
Following WhatsApp being ac-
quired by Facebook, Telegram,
another
popular
messaging
app, has gained millions of new
users. 1,800,000 new users reg-
istered for the service in one day.
In a Tweet, the company said that
it was adding new servers to meet
the “insane growth rate.” “We
are getting 100 new registrations
every second,” it said in another
tweet. WhatsApp users became
concerned after Facebook ac-
quired the messaging service be
-
cause of the privacy issues of the
social media site. However, Mark
Zuckerberg said that “WhatsApp
is going to continue to operate
completely autonomously.”
