ative solutions in the field of smartphone
applications. We ultimately qualify them
for programming applications according to
international quality standards.
What type of consulting services does
the Centre offer to government entities?
The Innovation Centre offers consulting
services through the help of operation
system providers such as IOS, Android,
Blackberry, and Windows Phone. Such
consulting services provide information
to government entities about developing
their mService strategies, and improving
their existing applications.
Who are the target audience of the
Centre’s services?
The Digital Innovation Centre provides
services to government entities, educa-
tional institutions, the private sector and
regional and international Centres.
It opens the way to university students to
showcase their innovative projects, skills
and talents in this field. Additionally, it will
work on refining their innovations and pro
-
viding them with the opportunity to com-
municate with government entities and big
players such as Apple, Google, Microsoft
and Blackberry. Thus, it can establish a re-
lationship between the application devel-
opers and the service providers.
The word “innovation” gives the
impression that the main concern
will be given to the form or techni-
cal aspect. Is this true?
We mean innovation in its broadest sense
in form and content, and the way the ser-
vices are presented in an innovative way
such as developing an application that
saves time or uses location-based ser-
vices in an innovative way.
Does the Centre aim at raising us
-
ers’ awareness about ways to pro
-
tect their data against breaching?
Yes, in addition to the technical training in
application programming, we will provide
government entities, university students
and the public with access to aware-
ness workshops about security issues.
This should help them understand the
best practices to avoid security risks and
breaches, as well as best measures to be
taken to ensure the security.
Since our Centre is referred to as an “In-
novation” Centre, we cannot limit the ap-
plications to smartphones. Today we have
smart watches, smart glasses, etc. The
Centre considers smart application solu-
tions whether for smartphones or other
devices, so we seek the development of
human talents especially among UAE citi-
zens to enable them to develop applica-
tions in general. This serves the goal of
building an ideal smart city.
