USD 32 billion Middle East’s IT market
According to IDC, thanks to Big Data analytics from
basic queries and reporting, to data warehouses
and data virtualisation, the Middle East is one of the
fastest-growing IT markets in the world, set to reach
USD 32 billion in 2014.
15% increase in government de-
mands for user info
Google said the number of government re-
quests for user info increased 15 percent se-
quentially in the first half of this year.
Google said it was facing increasing pressure
from governments around the world, particular-
ly the United States, to reveal user information
in criminal investigations amid ongoing revela-
tions about national surveillance programs.
Facebook hits 100 million
monthly active users in Africa
Facebook now has more than 100 mil-
lion monthly active users in Africa.
According to Facebook, more than 80%
of Facebook’s users in Africa are visiting
the site via mobile devices.
Global 4G subscribers exceed 250
million for the moment
The number of 4G mobile broadband subscrip-
tions worldwide reached the milestone of 250
million in the first quarter of 2014, according to
global analyst firm Ovum.
Ovum’s latest update came during the World
Cellular Data Metrics, which tracks mobile data
usage and take-up including subscribers, de-
ployments, revenues, mobile broadband us-
age, and SMS/MMS/data traffic.
USD 15.1 billion international big data market
According to Frost & Sullivan, a leading global market research and
analysis firm, the GCC’s Big Data market is poised to make a consider-
able contribution to anticipated growth in the global arena – the interna-
tional Big Data market is poised to jump from USD 3.2 billion in 2013 to
USD 15.1 billion by 2020.
