DEWA launches
“Ashir” – A Service for the Disabled
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA)
launched “Ashir” (Meaning: use the sign lan-
guage); a service which is the first in the UAE
and aims at providing DEWA’s services to
hearing impaired people.
The service comes in the context of DEWA’s
strategy to stabilize the principles of social re-
sponsibility, initiatives and developmental and
societal projects presented towards all types
of people including deaf-mutes.
The service came in line with the directives of
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid
Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Min-
ister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. His
Highness aims at turning UAE and Dubai to
a hub for benevolent and humanitarian work,
and reinforcing community service to please
citizens and residents. The service is also in
consistence with the initiative “My community,
a city for everyone” launched by His High-
ness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin
Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai
and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council.
The initiative aims at fully turning Dubai into
a disabled-friendly city by 2020 through the
support and reinforcement of Dubai city to
stabilize the disabled.
