Dubai Roads and Transport Author-
ity (RTA) showcased a new array of
smart services GITEX 2013 which are
offered to smart phone users, most
important of which comes “Smart
Taxi”, which is to be launched early
next year.
These services allow users to accom-
plish several transactions via their
smartphone devices without the need
to visit customer support centers.
RTA chairman and CEO Mattar al-
Tayer stated that the “Smart Taxi”
service is considered one of the lat-
est, most sophisticated and innovative
smart applications. It is the first of its
kind to allow users to book a taxi and
track its route directly during the actual
moving time of the vehicle.
He also explained that this unique ap-
plication is characterized by its fea-
tures that are unprecedented in the
Middle East. It grants its users from
Dubai residents, tourists and visitors
the ability to book a taxi with a single
click any time and from any location
through the smartphone app, which is
easy and seamless to use.
Al-Tayer also points out that the new
“Smart Taxi” app covers all taxis in
Dubai, which are more than 8500 vehi-
cles. It is incredibly simple and serves
all segments of society. Moreover, this
smart app makes booking a taxi a new
luxury and excellence experience of-
fered to everyone in Dubai.
With AWQAF app, all the ser-
vices provided by the Gener-
al Authority for Islamic Affairs
and Endowment (Awqaf)
have been made available
to everyone in the country.
The move is part of the Au-
thority’s strategic plan aimed
at elevating its role in the society and serving its vision and
mission.
The AWQAF app allows users to access all services pro-
vided by the Authority.
It comprises of nine main sections, being: About the Author-
ity, Publications and books, Friday sermons, Fatwa, Commu-
nication channel with the official Fatwa Center, Masjid (locate
nearest mosque), Waqf, Hajj and Umrah, and Contact us.
The first sections includes all Fatawa with questions and an-
swers and allows the user to send any Fatwa they would like
to inquire about by SMS or via e-mail.
The second section, Masjid, provides users with all informa-
tion they need on prayer times, Qiblah and the nearest Mas-
jid for them.
The app also provides information about Sheik Zayed Grand
Mosque with pictures and panorama technology.
The Hajj and Umrah section contains details on all rites per-
formed in Hajj and Umrah, and allows users to send their
suggestions and complaints, as well as to follow all Emirates
official campaigns on Hajj and Umrah.
Through the app, users can also get all Friday sermons with
the ability to read, listen to, and download them.
More over the app allows users the opportunity to browse
and download all the Authority’s books and publications and
get any news and information on Waqf and Awqaf.
Launched in 2012, AWQAF app is featured with integrated
main and sub lists and the variety of its contents. It can be
easily downloaded from various operating systems and is
free of technical issues that may prevent the user from mak-
ing best use of its services.
The app is available in Arabic and English on Android, iOS,
Windows phone and Blackberry. It is technically designed to
allow future upgrades of its services, contents and features.
AWQAF has won the 18th Middle East eGov and eServices
Excellence Award in the ‘Mobile App Excellence Award’ cat-
egory.
