A recent study has ranked Google as the
world’s most valuable brand topping Apple.
According to the 2014 BrandZ Top 100 Most
Valuable Global Brand ranking, Google’s
brand value rose 40 percent last year, to
$159 billion. Apple, meanwhile, slipped 20
percent to $148 billion.
IBM grabbed the third spot, followed by Mi-
crosoft in No. 4 and then McDonald’s, which
is the only non-tech brand within the top five.
Meanwhile, the Chinese website, Tencent,
was ranked as the fastest-growing brand
doubling its value, while Facebook’s value
shot up 68 percent year over year.
British scientists launched the world’s larg-
est study into the effects of mobile phone
usage and other wireless technologies on
the developing brains of children.
The Study of Cognition, Adolescents and
Mobile Phones (SCAMP) will focus on cog-
nitive abilities like memory and attention and
how they develop in relation to teenagers
changing use of mobile phones.
While there is no convincing evidence that
mobile phones’ radio waves affect health,
but most scientific researches has so far fo-
cused on adults and brain cancer. Experts
have hypothesized that children could be
more vulnerable to any effects due to their
developing nervous systems.

The South Korean Samsung
Electronics Co. plans to roll out a
smart watch that can make calls
without being tethered to a smart-
phone, according to The Wall
Street Journal citing people famil-
iar with the company’s plans.
“Samsung’s watch-phone will be
able to make and receive calls
without being tethered to a smart-
phone. It will also send email,
take photos and come with GPS,”
the journal said.
The Journal stated that Samsung
hopes to unveil the gadget be-
tween June and July 2014, clari-
fying that it will run on Samsung’s
operating system, Tizen.
