Smart Government
to Smart Cities, a journey to the future
A session entitled, “From Smart Govern-
ment to Smart Cities: Journey to the Fu-
ture”, which is part of the Government
Summit, shed light on smart city models
from around the world.
The session was attended by HE Ahmad
Bin Byat, Chairman of Du Telecommu-
nications and HE Rashed Lahej Al Man-
soori, Director General of the Abu Dhabi
Systems & Information Center (ADSIC)
and moderated by CNN journalist Richard
Quest. The session discussed the UAE’s
readiness for Smart City transformation.
Bin Byat said that the Smart City we aspire
to is a city that provides a platform for sus-
tainability and individuals. Human beings
should be its core constituent and it should
not be merely a group of systems. He said
the UAE without doubt have the neces-
sary capabilities to achieve that. Smart
Cities are a combination of infrastructure
and smart services under one ceiling.
Rashed Al Mansoori said that the Smart
City’s infrastructure must be dynamic with
fluid customer interactions. We believe the
UAE’s cities to be smart at the telecom-
munications level. They are also smart
given that we listen to the public and meet
their needs. We gather reports and data
from the public and
immediately work to
solve the problems
they might encounter.
Therefore, we consid-
er the UAE’s cities to
be deservingly smart.
