Smart City
potentials in the UAE in
a discussion session
On the closing day of its 3rd round, the
Government Summit set its first session
to discuss the UAE’s vision towards Smart
City transformation and the efforts exerted
in this area.
The discussion session entitled, “Smart
City Potentials in the UAE” comprised
three spokesmen namely Falah Mo-
hamed Al Ahbabi, Director General of Abu
Dhabi Urban Planning Council, Saeed Al
Tayer, Dubai Electricity & Water Author-
ity’s Managing Director and Eng. Hussain
Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai
Municipality.
The session was kicked off by a quick re-
view of the urban development and grow-
ing populations of cities throughout the
world in general and cities in the region in
particular. The session shed light on the
importance of the smart transformation
of the capital, Abu Dhabi, the emirate of
Dubai and all Emirati cities. It was pointed
out that city residents will constitute 70%
of world population by 2030, and cities will
comprise nearly 80% of global economy.
Al Ahbabi highlighted the UAE’s vision
and its importance in achieving sustain-
able development in the environment,
economic development and transporta-
tion sectors, as well as in maintaining and
preserving the national identity and heri-
tage. He pointed out that Abu Dhabi had
begun implementing Abu Dhabi’s urban
planning multi-tiered program with the aim
to set a practical and structural framework
to develop the city, thoroughly identify,
analyze and meet the development pres-
ent and future needs,
enhance
planning
and promote effective
principles capable of
keeping par with the
capital’s urban devel-
opment.
The Telecommunications Regulatory
Authority (TRA) posted a short video on
its YouTube channel, demonstrating the
uses of its app UAE TRA. This comes as
part of its keenness to improve the tele-
communications services it offers in the
UEA. The app is available on Google and
Apple app stores.
UAE TRA features a user-friendly inter-
face and a simple and easy to use design.
The app comes in both Arabic and Eng-
lish and users can shift easily between
languages. Shifting between Arabic and
English does not require closing the app.
The app aims to simplify all telecommu-
nications operations by providing users
with accessible and convenient support
and help services. The app provides us-
ers with multiple solutions across various
areas of concern.
