100% reliance on smart devices for education by 2017
Smart devices will be 100% used for teaching and learning purposes in
the education sector in the GCC by 2017. The Ministry of Education in the
UAE adopted plans and programs to expand the use of smart learning
techniques in the academic year 2014-2015. It supplied 25,000 students
with tablets to be used for learning purposes.
57% of UAE online shopping done
through smartphones
Newly released research by PayPal and market
research firm Ipsos shows that 57% of online
shoppers in the UAE used smartphones over the
past 12 months. The UAE was named second
largest market for mobile commerce. China is
the largest market for mobile commerce, seeing
about 68% of online shoppers making a purchase
through a smartphone over the last 12 months,
followed by the UAE (57%) and Turkey (53%).
258 million YouTube views per
day in the Middle East
In its annual report, Digital Media Science,
a specialists in digital media and artificial
intelligence research in the MENA region
found said that there are 258 million views
per day on the video sharing site YouTube
in the Middle East.
40 million Internet users in Egypt, and 22
million on Facebook
A report issued by Digital Media Science confirmed
that there are 40 million Internet users in Egypt with
a penetration rate of 46% of total population, and 22
million are on Facebook, while active Twitter users ac-
count for 520,000 only.
1.2 billion smartphones sold in 2014
Recent data by the GFK analysis company, showed that 1,226 million
smartphones were sold and in users’ hands in 2014, rather than the num-
ber of shipments, which is an increase of 23% compared to 2013.
