FedNET,
main artery of mGovernment
Editorial Team
The
Federal Electronic Network (FedNET) TRA is currently building
is part of the mGovernment infrastructure. FedNET will provide
a central database and secure hosting services that will be the main artery
for the integration processes and for linking systems and services across
federal entities.
mGovernment interviewed Saeed Belhoul, Director of eGovernment Op-
erations at the TRAwho shed light on FedNET which connects information
systems of federal entities in the UAE and is considered a major platform
for developing both eGovernment and mGovernment.
FedNET is one of the main pillars of the mGovernment Strategy devel-
oped by the Information and eGovernment Sector at the TRA. It will pro-
vide high-speed connectivity and integration for 42 federal entities and
will help establish a common infrastructure that supports federal entities’
efforts to achieve integration and eService flexibility and mobility.
Through this project, the TRA is seeking to build Emirati capabilities able
to take the responsibility and make decisions through refining skills and
experiences of Emirati youth and qualify them to build the network.
An opinion poll conducted by mGovernment shows that 90% of smart
phone users don’t read the terms and conditions when they install opera-
tion systems or mobile apps.
Some of the apps study users’ activities and use this information to send
spam messages to them. To overcome this phenomenon, TRA is studying
the terms and conditions of a number of the most used apps and services
and will issue reports and guidelines on these terms and conditions shed-
ding light on the ones that might cause harm.
In an interview with mGovernment, Dr Salim Sultan Al Ruzaiqi, CEO of
Oman’s Information Technology Authority said that during the past two
years, Oman managed to eTransform 50-70% of its primary government
services following the integration model for the purpose.
Dr Al Ruzaiqi highlights the steps Oman has taken to transform eSer
-
vices to smart services. He noted that the Sultanate aimed at providing
integrated government eServices that Omani citizens can conduct online
easily and comfortably.
