Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology
Mobile numberMonitoring legal measurement tools, known as 'metrological control', is key to verifying conformity in commercial and service transactions such as trade-approved, retail, airport and shipping scales. It is also crucial for ensuring accurate readings of gas station meters, measurements in fabric stores and other everyday tools.
To ensure the conformity of these tools with regulatory requirements,
metrological control is considered a key pillar of accuracy across scales and
meters. This is part of the ministry's scope of work, under the Conformity Sector,
in cooperation with local and federal government entities, as well as the
private sector.
Metrological control program results for 2023 show the verification
of more than 1,200 medical measurement devices nationwide, including blood
pressure monitors and thermometers, in addition to 12,000 gas station meters,
with more than 99% conformity to technical requirements.
3000 gold, jewelry and perfume trade scales were verified in the sector.
In prepackaging, the quantities printed on 1,700 products across the local
market were verified. These efforts have a direct impact on providing safe,
reliable products and services to consumers, protecting their rights, as well
as promoting fair and competitive trade practices. This reinforces the UAE's position
as a leader in quality and conformity in line with international standards.
Metrology supports the UAE economy by enhancing the competitiveness
of national industries in local, regional, and international markets, as well
as supporting trade exchange through harmonizing standards. The UAE's quality
infrastructure closely aligns with international best practices.
Metrological control contributes to the accuracy of product
quantities, ensuring the rights of manufacturers and consumers, as well as
fairness, with regular inspections to promote responsible practices among
manufacturers.
