Medical visa
Foreign patients can enter the UAE for treatment under the sponsorship of the medical establishment where they would be getting treatment. The entry permit of the patient’s companion can be extended only once after furnishing a duly certified medical report stating that his/her presence is needed in the UAE.
Visa for patient
Foreigners can enter the UAE for treatment under the sponsorship of a medical establishment. The sponsor (medical establishment) takes the responsibility of processing entry permits for treatment upon the patient’s request.
In Dubai
General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai grants a medical visa for single or multiple entries. The visa may be for 90 or 180 days.
Documents required
The following documents are needed to process the entry permit:

patient’s passport copy
-
medical report
-
a photo
-
a letter from the host/sponsor stating the justification for visit

health insurance.
Conditions
The sponsor must be a hospital licensed and registered in the UAE. A deposit for financial security should be made.
In Abu Dhabi and the Northern Emirates
Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) provides a visa for treatment. ICP covers the emirates of Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah. The visa may be for a single entry or multiple entries.
Visa for patient's companion
In Dubai
General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs grants visa to foreigner patient’s companion. Permits are of two types single and multiple entry.
The companion's visa can be extended only once provided a duly certified medical report states that the patient needs to continue treatment and that he/she is needed in the UAE.
Required documents
The following documents are needed to process the entry permit:
- companion’s passport copy
- a photo
- copy of the patient’s visa
- a letter from the hospital.
Conditions
- The companion must enter UAE along with the patient.
- He/she must have the same type pf visa as the patient (in terms of number of entries).
- The companion’s visa will not be extended unless the patient’s entry visa is extended.
