Eight steps
to increase
your phone’s
battery life
Did your phone’s battery die while out
and waiting for an important phone call?
Many of us faced such a situation which
may have caused great discomfort.
FixYa.com, a website specialized in mon
-
itoring and solving issues related to smart
devices stated that battery life is the most
popular problem among leading smart-
phones released in 2013.
Below are eight tips to help you make the
battery last longer:
Turn off screen
German magazine PC Welt sates that
users should turn their phone screen
off when not used by going to Settings/
Screen Saver and choosing the shortest
time possible.
Brightness
Users should also turn the brightness of
the display to the lowest setting possible.
Network
Shifting constantly between UMTS and
GSM drains the battery faster, specifical
-
ly in areas where 3G is poor, such as in
rural areas. Therefore, in order to make
the battery last longer, users should set
the phone to rely on 2G network only dur-
ing mobile phone calls.
Wi-Fi
Turning off the wireless feature on smart-
phones also helps in making the battery
last longer when users are outside their
network range because in such case the
phone keeps searching for available wire-
less networks which depletes the battery
fairly quickly.
Turn off sync
Turning off sync might prove helpful as
sharing data continuously drains the bat-
tery faster. Users can uncheck “Automat-
ic Sync” in the “Accounts & Sync” list or
turn off the sync icon by clicking it.
GPS
GPS is one of the biggest functions
that eat up battery life. Therefore, us-
ers should turn off this feature when not
needed. Additionally, by turning the fea-
ture off, users can guarantee more data
protection.
Turn off Bluetooth
Bluetooth should also be turned off on
the phone when not needed because it
will drain your battery very quickly. This
feature keeps the device constantly
searching for compatible devices. Turn-
ing off Bluetooth also helps in ensuring
privacy on your phone.
E-mail fetching
There is no need for your smartphone
or tablet to check your email all the time.
Under Settings, you can set it to only
check email when you want to, and you
will save a lot battery this way.
