121 million Android devices sold in 2013
A report issued by Gartner for market research indicated
that the sales of Android devices increased at 127% during
last year rising to 121 million devices with a market share
of 62%.
70 million iPad tablets sold in 2013
The Gartner report showed a slowdown in the growth
pace of the iPad tablets produced by Apple, which in

creased from 61 million tablets in 2012 to 70 million tab
-
lets last year, so the market share went down from 53%
to 36%. However, Apple is still the top tablet producer
in the world, beating its South Korean competitor, Sam
-
sung, which sold 37 million tablets last year.
87% of American adults use the Internet
A survey conducted by US Pew Research Center found
that 87% of American adults use the Internet. 90% of in
-
ternet users say the internet has been a good thing for
them personally and 76% of internet users say the internet
has been a good thing for society. 67% of internet users
say their online communication with family and friends has
generally strengthened those relationships, while 18% say
it generally weakens those relationships.
1% Internet share of individual income in
the UAE
A World Bank report said that broadband subscription in
the UAE is less than 1 per cent of the disposable monthly
income, which is the least rate in the Middle East. The
broadband growth rates in the UAE were more than 30
per cent in the period from January 2011 until end of
2013.
16 million active phone lines by end of
2013
Statistics issued by the Telecommunications Regula

tory Authority (TRA) found more than 16 million ac

tive cell phone lines in the UAE by end of last year,
increasing with about 2,051 million new lines.
