IDC:
Dubai has what it takes to be
an integrated smart city
A report by IDC, a premier global provider of intelligence and advi-
sory services for information technology, said that Dubai has many
of the right attributes to transform into smart city. According to the
report, due to Dubai’s forward-thinking it has established an im-
portant infrastructure upon which to build its smart city initiative.
It has already invested in solutions to utilize biometrics for secure
border clearance, centralized government payments, and create a
base technology platform for departments to utilize shared solu-
tions such as its Government Resources Planning System.

tem which is among the best
in the world, is another attri-
bute the report highlighted,
noting that Dubai has recently
made a strong push to en-
hancing mobility by rolling out
key services through smart-
phones involving a strong
collaboration with service providers,
technology companies and ICT lead-
ers.
The report, however, stressed that
Dubai needs to frame its initiative
within a comprehensive strategy, and
put in place a clear roadmap cover-
ing issues like sustainable urban
development and improvement of
citizens’ living standards, noting that
this must therefore involve collabo-
ration between government, people
and local companies to set out the
right standards and priorities for the
right smart city solutions.
