Dubai Customs’ recently launched Smart
Claim System has attained tangible positive
outcomes, as part of the Department’s array
of smart services. The smart claim system is
aimed to control the refund of all cash or bank
guarantees paid as security for customs de-
posits of goods imported under cases of sus-
pended duties, as well as securities paid for
other purposes.
The new service was well received by cus-
tomers, as 16800 service requests were sub-
mitted since its launch on October 1st 2013.
The new Claim System contributes to saving
efforts and time and allows clients to reduce
cost as they can process their claims remotely.
It also allows Dubai Customs to partially utilize
efforts of its staff who work in customer ser-
vice centers to achieve greater productivity by
moving them to other work fields that cope with
the new stage, in which technology is widely
used enabling employees to increase their
achievements’ capabilities. The launch of this
new smart system comes to facilitate customs
procedures and enable clients to finalize their
transactions wherever they are through their
smart phones or other electronic channels.

The German computer magazine “Chip” said that internet hack-
ers tend to track searches that are widely conducted on the in-
ternet aiming to obtain information on
the main interests and trends and use
that information in inventing new tricks
to attack their victims. The magazine
detailed that internet pirates try to ad-
vantage from internet browsers’ inter-
ests in certain topics such as famous
tourism destinations and low travel
offers so as to direct them to fake
websites in order to steal their money
or to infect their systems with mali-
cious software or viruses. Through
experience, internet pirates learnt
that it is not difficult to draw atten
-
tion of those who use the main
search engines on the internet by
providing them with attractive offers
such as cheap flights or reasonable
insurance rates. This way, the hack-
ers push the users to open suspicious
websites or links. Such websites urg-
es users to unknowingly pay certain
fees or download malicious software
on their computers.

Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan
Tamim, Deputy Chairman of Police
and General Security in Dubai and
Chairman of Juvenile Welfare Asso-
ciation, sees that electronic culture
has become an axiom of the modern
age and represents a key tributary to
human knowledge acquisition.
Khalfan clarified that recent times
have proven the increasing share of
electronic culture out of the total infor-
mation and accumulated knowledge
and expertise of a person.
He pointed that electronic culture has
caused deep social transformations,
especially among the younger gen-
eration. There have been changes in
the pattern of relationships and friend-
ships, exchanging of impressions and
influencing others. This demonstrates
the deep impact of this type of culture
on the young generations.
Khalfan added: “Electronic culture ho-
rizons are numerous, particularly at a
time when knowledge is available for
everyone. Cross-border instant com-
munication is possible without any
barriers or limits. These are positive
aspects our youth can benefit from
to elevate their capabilities, enrich
their culture, use their talents, utilize
e-learning and have positive relation-
ships and fruitful friendships.”
Khalfan underlined that analysing re-
cent developments has proved that
some neighbouring communities
have been affected by the negative
impacts of electronic culture, par-
ticularly social media networks which
were sometimes misused to publish
misleading information and spread
rumours to divide the people and in-
flame unrest to weaken loyalty and
belonging.
