“My Language, My Identity”

app is launched by Dubai Ambulance to

teach Arabic language

Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Ser-

vices has launched its first Android run

mobile app called “My Language, My

Identity”. The app was very successful

in teaching Arabic to the medical staff at

the corporation, particularly, field staff.

The app further helped staff members

enhance their sense of national identity

and strengthen their sense of belonging

to the country, as well as developing the

skills of paramedics in smartly dealing

with patients.

The 3-tiered program includes the mo-

bile app, the teaching of Arabic language

and reinforcing national identity. The app

facilitates communication with non-Arab

patients, saves much time and effort, im-

proves performance and ultimately saves

lives.

Paramedics can listen to Arabic sentences

and their meanings to be able to know the

symptoms, complaints or any pain suf-

fered by the patient in order to be able to

properly address the issue in enough time.

This service did not cost the corporation

any financial burdens as it was fully pro-

duced by internal efforts of the Commu-

nication & Public Relations Department,

and the “My Language, My Identity”

team, who previously launched a website

with the same name.

The first of its kind app in the UAE allows

audio teaching of the Arabic language

while displaying the equivalent in the tar-

get language, or writing the Arabic sen-

tence in Latin/foreign letters to make it

easier for non-Arabic speakers.

The app contains FAQs prepared by the

app team based on a field study to identify

common and known diseases and condi-

tions, injuries and symptoms that patients

usually complain about. The symptoms

are relayed to the paramedic, which can

be paramount to taking the proper action.

The app further contains a human body

map in order to identify its parts and in-

ternal organs to facilitate diagnosis and

communication with foreigners, with even

a pointing to the location of pain.

The app has an introduction about the

UAE, including its foundation and history,

its seven emirates, rulers, achievements

of the Union, and prominent Emirati fig-

ures across various fields.
