Smartphone sales
growth to decline in
2015
and
Android
dominates the market
Global smartphone sales are likely to
grow at a lower rate of 11.3% this year
as compared to 27.6% in 2014, research
firm International Data Corporation (IDC)
said.
Android smartphones are expected
to dominate sales at 79.4% out of total
global sales, equivalent to 1.15 billion
units. Android smartphone growth is also
expected to be slower than the worldwide
market at 8.5%.
Apple released the iPhone 6 and iPhone
6 Plus. The new devices were probably
the reason why Apple’s iPhone sales
growth flourished compared to the period
from 2012 to 2014. The shift of some
users fromAndroid to iOS and the fact that
a decent number of Apple’s customers
own older versions of the iPhone keeps
the door open for increasing growth.
IDC has put down growth estimates for
Apple’s smartphones at 23.0% this year,
equivalent to 16.4% of global sales.
Of
all
smartphones,
Windows
smartphones by Microsoft Corporation
receive the highest projected year over
year growth rates, in 2015 (34.1%) at
3.2% of global sales.
The report also expected an ongoing
decline in global growth of smartphone
sales until 2019 reaching 5.1% for year
over year basis. Android phones shall
dominate global sales by 70%.
