UAE’s support
of the ITU
Houlin Zhao, the newly-elected Secretary-
General of the ITU, today praised the UAE
for its continued support of the union, not-
ing that the world is looking forward to
the next ITU Plenipotentiary Conference,
which will be held in the UAE in 2018.
“On behalf of the United Arab Emirates, I
would like to extend warmest congratula-
tions to Mr. Zhao for being named to head
the ITU. We wish you every success. I
would like to assure you of the UAE’s full
support in your coming tenure and we will
work closely with you and with the elected
team to support the ITU’s activities and ful-
fil its missions in order to achieve the set
strategic objectives,” said H.E. Mohamed
Nasser Al Ghanim.

Plenipotentiary Conference 2014
The Plenipotentiary Conference of the ITU
announced selecting two members of the
official delegation representing the UAE
to hold senior positions within the confer-
ence committees for the next four years.
Engineer Nasser Bin Hammad, Senior
Manager International Affairs at the TRA
was elected as a Vice President of the
Conference and Engineer Nasser Mar-
zouqi as Vice Chairman of the Sixth Com-
mittee responsible for overall manage-
ment and administrative matters.
The leading position occupied by the UAE
at the ITU reflects the empowerment strat-
egy adopted by the TRA management to
allow national cadres to serve their coun-
try in all possible areas and at all levels.
GCC Collaboration
The GCC groups held a coordination
meeting for the Ministers of Communi-
cations and heads of delegation of their
countries upon an invitation by the UAE
and in coordination with the GCC Secre-
tariat General. The meeting addressed a
range of key topics and issues of concern
to the GCC six member countries, includ-
ing the coordination efforts in the elections
for positions including the Secretary Gen-
eral, Deputy Secretary-General, Direc-
tors of Sectors and members of the ITU
Council and the Radio Regulation Board.
The participants also discussed the mem-
ber States views on topics of including In-
ternet Protocol, Information Security, the
sovereignty of the GCC states and other
important topics.
Adeeb Al Balushi, the 10-year-old Emir-
ati boy who accompanied the delegation
of the TRA to the Conference to convey
the message of all young Emiratis to the
rest of the world, addressed the ITU au-
dience of about 3,000 international del-
egates with his exceptional speech.
Adeeb Al Balushi began his speech by
welcoming the guests and commend-
ing the efforts of the ITU and the orga-
nizers of the event and the host city of
Busan. From the very beginning of his
speech, Al Balushi was able to enthrall
the audience and make everyone listen
with awe and admiration. Adeeb did not
forget to convey a thank you message
on behalf of Emirati children to the UAE
leadership that empowered its people
with everything to enhance their abilities
