Since launching the app in March 2013
and up to the end of July 2014, the Roads
and Transport Authority (RTA) received
438 emergency reports via Madinati App
which it launched for the public to report
any emergent damage that may distort
the aesthetic and civilized appearance of
Dubai roads.
The app comes in the context of RTA’s
vigorous efforts to provide smart technol-
ogy services to its customers and the com-
munity, turn Dubai into the smartest city in
the world, and to support the Hamdan Bin
Mohammed’s initiative of the Dubai Smart
Government which aims at introducing
new means of technology. These efforts
come as per the directives of His Highness
Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Mak-
toum, Vice-President and Prime Minister
of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. RTA smart
app is a technological means for the public
to emergently report any damage of roads
and property and any life threat through
uploading an image to the concerned site
via smart phones.
Receiving 438 reports reflects a good
sign compared to the newness of the app.
This means the public is starting to use
the smart service after being used to di-
rectly report through calling on the number
8009090. This is to know that more than
22 thousand direct reports were made last
year; a matter that reflects Dubai commu-
nity as caring, responsible and responsive.
Madinati smart app came to accompa-
ny the boom in the spread of the smart
phones and to reflect a technology option
for the target audience. Due to the app,
RTA achieved several objectives mainly
saving the time and effort of road inspec-
tors who carry out periodic site inspections
to spot any damage or risks and accord-
ingly inform the bodies concerned to take
appropriate action.
The smart app includes an auto-locator
which locates the map of the target dam-
age site. If no such information is sent
by the sender, the auto-locator helps in
speeding RTA team to fix the problem; this
is one of the strategic objectives of creat-
ing this app.
