Android KitKat on 24.5 percent of devices
Android KitKat (version 4.4) has become the majority
Android OS on Android devices, an increase of 5 per-
cent over last month.
WhatsApp hits 600 million actives users
The instant messaging and chatting service What-
sApp now has 600 million monthly active users.
In April, WhatsApp announced it reached the half a
billion users, meaning its base has grown by 100 mil-
lion users in just four months. WhatsApp is followed
by the Chinese messaging app WeChat which hit
438 million active users, while Fiber came third with
300 million registered users, of which 100 million ac-
tive users. Tango follows with 70 million active users.
Facebook hits 1 billion downloads
in Google Play
Facebook for Android achieved a record num-
ber hitting 1 billion downloads in Google Play.
Same wise, Facebook Messenger just
reached 500 million downloads recently.
Snapchat now worth $10 billion
US dollars 10 billion is the figure Snapchat develop-
ers are aiming at after Microsoft joined negotiations
to acquire the app. Google offered US$ 4 billion and
Facebook US$ 3 billion, but they didn’t make the
deal. According to the Wall Street Journal, Snapchat
users hit 100 million monthly active users, with more
than two-third of the users logging in daily.
95 apps installed on Android devices
Android users have an average of 95 apps installed on their phones,
according to Yahoo Aviate data, 35 of which are used (on average)
each day. The study showed that certain apps appeal to users at
specific times of day. Google Maps usage peaks later in the day
when people are trying to get places, while the clock app peaks at
night-time and in the morning.
