As part of its strategic directions to enhance the participation of all sectors in achieving the UAE's goals towards achieving climate neutrality by 2050, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment has completed the "National Dialogue on Climate Ambition" initiative for the year 2023.
It aims to:
exchanging experiences and the best effective ways to achieve climate neutrality 2050 between companies and local authorities and unite national efforts.
Process:
The initiative, which will continue its activities on an ongoing basis during the year 2023, depends on holding a monthly meeting, during which the needs, requirements and priorities of several sectors in the country are discussed separately.
In 2024, the UAE's Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) advanced climate action through several key initiatives, many of which were influenced by the outcomes of the National Dialogue for Climate Ambition:
1. Extension of the 'Year of Sustainability': Under the directive of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the 'Year of Sustainability' was extended into 2024. This extension underscores the UAE's dedication to embedding sustainable practices across all sectors and fostering a culture of sustainability within society.
2. UAE Council for Climate Action's Strategic Planning: The UAE Council for Climate Action convened to assess progress in national climate initiatives and establish a comprehensive action plan for 2024. The council's efforts focus on achieving climate sustainability and aligning with the nation's goal of climate neutrality.
3. Launch of the 'Our Green Emirates' Initiative: As part of the 'Plant the Emirates' National Programme, MOCCAE introduced the 'Our Green Emirates' initiative. This program organizes national events and competitions to encourage individuals, families, government institutions, and the private sector to participate in greening efforts, thereby enhancing the nation's green spaces.
4. Implementation of the 'Waste to Zero' Initiative: In collaboration with Tadweer (Abu Dhabi Waste Management Company), MOCCAE launched the 'Waste to Zero' initiative during COP28. This global endeavor aims to decarbonize waste management and establish a circular economy, contributing to the UAE's sustainability objectives.
5. Enhancement of Agricultural Practices: MOCCAE initiated programs to improve agricultural advisory services, focusing on developing the skills of agricultural extension agents and providing specialized training in areas such as soil management, irrigation, and pest control. These efforts aim to boost agricultural productivity and promote sustainable farming practices.
These initiatives reflect MOCCAE's commitment to advancing climate action and sustainability in alignment with the UAE's national goals and the insights gained from the National Dialogue for Climate Ambition.
