Building bridges between youth and the elderly for the benefit of both
Subject
Ministry of Community Development will organise an innovation lab in
mid-2017. It is a part of the ministry’s programme in Innovation Week, which
aims to propose and offer innovative ideas in support of social work in general
and enhancing the role of community in taking care of the elderly.
In the earlier days, older generation played an important role in
shaping a child’s growth and all-round development. They shared stories about
the UAE’s history and culture. This led to instilling a sense of loyalty,
belonging and patriotism in the younger generation. However, these days there
seems to be an obvious disconnection between the two generations. Hence, the ministry
will hold a brainstorming session to gather ideas on bringing the elderly and younger
generations closer.
Goal of the consultation
A
brainstorming session to gather ideas on how to build bridges between the
elderly and younger generation.
What you can expect
All ideas
will be gathered and studied carefully for its practicality in implementing and
achieving a closer bond between the different generations in a household.
Outcome
The ministry launched the elderly visiting programme to give the younger generation chance to interact and communicate with the elderly people.
