UAE tops Global Entrepreneurship Index 2022

The Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) ranked the UAE 1st globally in its Global Entrepreneurship Index (GEI) 2022, in an achievement that reflects the country's continuing journey of excellence in various fields, thanks to the support and vision of its wise leadership. According to the report, the UAE scored the highest in the index's general ranking with a score of 6.8 and emerged first globally in the UAE entrepreneurs' surveys carried out by GEM, to be recognized as the number one global destination in terms of supporting entrepreneurs. This ranking is a testament to the UAE's success in developing a world-class entrepreneurship ecosystem by establishing a highly enabling environment that incubates entrepreneurs and attracts startups, investments and talents, particularly the ones that focus on new economic sectors, innovation, and emerging technologies. The latest in a series of achievements The UAE's performance in the latest GEI once again underlines its commitment to positioning entrepreneurial growth as one of the main drivers of the future knowledge economy. Beyond doubt, it is the driving force of the national economy towards more diversity, competitiveness, and sustainable growth. The positive impact of the latest in a long series of achievements will also be reflected in the country's various sectors, economic activities, entrepreneurs, and investors across all emirates. It will further enhance the global confidence in UAE's markets as an ideal economic destination for doing business and establishing new ventures. A leading entrepreneurial ecosystem The UAE's entrepreneurial model has achieved exceptional achievements over the past and current two years. For instance, the country ranked first regionally in financing startups and entrepreneurship by attracting more than USD 1 billion in venture capital for the first time in history. In addition, the 'Projects of the 50' have been launched for the development of national entrepreneurial incentives, as well as the implementation of the largest series of public-private partnerships to launch the 'Entrepreneurial Nation.' The initiative is set to significantly develop the country's entrepreneurship ecosystem to make the UAE a home to more than 20 unicorns over the next 10 years. The UAE provides entrepreneurs and startup owners with all the support they need - be it in terms of infrastructure or legislation or regulatory frameworks - to achieve business success not only in the country but also in the region. According to GEI 2022, the UAE has improved its performance across 11 of the 13 sub-indicators of the Index. These axes include Entrepreneurial Finance; Ease of Access to Entrepreneurial Finance; Government Policy: Support & Relevance; Government Policy: Taxes and Bureaucracy; Government Entrepreneurial Programs; Entrepreneurial Education at School; Entrepreneurial Education Post-School; Research and Development Transfers; Commercial and Professional Infrastructure; Ease of Entry: Market Dynamics; Ease of Entry: Burdens and Regulation; Physical Infrastructure; Social and Cultural Norms. Furthermore, the report highlights the outstanding results achieved by the UAE in a number of indicators that are taken into account within the methodology and questionnaires that were relied on to evaluate each country's performance. The country achieved high rates in indicators such as the availability of good opportunities to start a business; the availability of skills, knowledge and experience to start a business; confidence in the ability to meet the challenges posed by COVID-19; plans to use digital technology to develop business; and opportunities to hire additional employees over the next five years.
