One of the key goals of the Higher Colleges of Technology is
to promote students' academic success. This is accomplished through the HCT
Academic Success Program, which aims to enhance students' academic performance
and foundational skills. A major component of this program is the HCT Academic
Success Centers, designed to help students in need of academic support,
enabling them to pursue their college studies without obstacles. These centers
are available at all HCT campuses nationwide and focus on early intervention to
identify students' support needs based on the academic plans outlined by their
faculty. Additionally, students can proactively seek assistance and enroll in
these centers to improve their academic performance.
These centers leverage blockchain technology within the HCT
campus network and are managed through an electronic tracking system called
"TutTrak." This system enables faculty to monitor student performance and
schedule tutorial sessions tailored to individual needs. It also provides
access to HCT's digital learning resources. To accommodate diverse student
requirements in HCT's applied study environment, tutorials are offered in multiple
formats. Students can attend in-person sessions at the centers during their operating
hours or access remote tutorials available 24/7. Additionally, the tutorials consist
of a mix of lectures, practical workshops, and skill development sessions.
The HCT Academic Success Centers serve as an effective model
for providing academic support outside the classroom on a daily basis. Each
year, faculty members voluntarily contribute their time, with over 500
educators actively engaged, motivated by their dedication to teaching and
helping students succeed. Furthermore, outstanding students with GPAs above 3.0
and B grades in their subjects contribute as tutors through the HCT Peer
Tutoring Program. Their contributions are acknowledged with opportunities for
personal development in leadership and teaching skills, enhancing their future
careers. Additionally, their tutoring hours are counted as volunteering hours,
which are a graduation requirement at HCT. Many graduates also choose to contribute to
these centers, demonstrating their ongoing connection to HCT and their commitment
to helping others by volunteering to teach. Each year, around 300 students and
graduates take part in this rewarding teaching experience through the HCT
Academic Success Centers.
Now, after more than seven academic years since the
establishment of these centers-originally a concept that has since expanded to
every HCT campus-we see that students benefit greatly from the support they
offer, particularly with access to help outside regular study hours. To
highlight the success of these centers, it is noteworthy that from the academic
years 2017-2018 to 2023-2024, a total of 110,696 tutoring hours were delivered
by faculty, students, and graduates. This includes 34,275 hours contributed by
faculty, 72,846 hours by students, and 3,575 hours by graduates, all of which
were completed as volunteering hours.
