Moving
towards an mGovernment requires a solid technical
foundation that enables integration, interaction, data
exchange and the ability to complete transactions with a high level of secu-
rity and reliability. That’s why, there was a need to set up a federal network
to act as a backbone that connects government entities in the UAE.
The Federal Electronic Network (FedNET) is an important step within a
comprehensive national strategy that aims to complete the transition to-
wards mGovernment by May 2015 in line with the vision of His Highness
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Min-
ister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
In order to ensure the highest levels of security and efficiency, the network
establishes a unified access which allows users to access their personal
accounts at various government entities using the same username and
password
The project will be carried out in two main phases; building the network’s
technical center and rolling out the pilot exercise measuring connectivity.
Both phases are expected to be completed during the last week of October
2014. We look forward to connecting all federal entities by end of July 2015.
FedNet complements the electronic networks already in place at the eGov-
ernment levels in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. It will act as an incubator to the
centre which hosts data of federal entities in a highly secure environment to
ensures sustainability and immediate intervention in emergencies.
TRA is responsible for managing the project and following up on its compli-
ance with standards and requirements. Emirati competencies play a major
role in this important project through a large work team capable of leading
the transformation process.
FedNET is one of the initiatives under the mGovernment transformation
roadmap which focuses on establishing shared resources across various
UAE government entities. In addition to FedNET, the project includes other
services such as interconnectivity, digital identity, payment channels, cloud
services, Trusted Service Manager and Mobile Innovation Centre.
We consider this project the infrastructure for eGovernment and mGov-
ernemnt and the backbone that will help connectivity and integration and
elevate government work to more advanced levels in line with the UAE
Vision 2021 which aims for the UAE to be one of the best countries in the
world we celebrate the golden jubilee of our blessed union in 2021. It is a
target we all work hard to achieve.
