LinkedIn, the social networking website, has released a new mobile app
designed as the next generation of its Contacts app, launched a year ago.
The app allows users to access LinkedIn through their mobile phones.
The new app is called “Connected” and its main function is to give alerts
when someone in your network changes job, celebrates a work anniver-
sary, is mentioned in the news, or is celebrating a birthday. Alerts are
displayed through a series of cards.
The LinkedIn Contacts app served primarily as a hub for address book,
emails, and calendars, it also alerted users to events in their network, and
let them set reminders and add notes about their connections. However,
these capabilities were not satisfactory enough for professionals, and
that’s why LinkedIn developed the new Connected app.
”Google Maps“
for smartphones adds
new features for cyclists
“Connected”, a personal
assistant on LinkedIn
The US internet services company,
Google, has rolled out its latest version
of “Google Maps” for Android operated
smartphones with some interesting fea-
tures for bike enthusiasts.
The new features include bicycle direc-
tions show elevation, including elevation
comparison for multiple routes allowing
cyclists to choose one with the least
climbing, or the most if it is worth the ef-
fort.
“The app is listed as beta. Basically, you
get a timeline of your route so you can
choose one with the least climbing (or
the most if you’re all hardcore like),” said
Android Police website.
To use the feature, users will access
Google Maps website through their
Android-based smartphone, then se-
lect destination, and then “Biking”. If the
route is not plane, Google maps will dis-
play a chart map for the route with el-
evations and time required to reach the
destination.
