The issue of food security is crucial, and we are recently witnessing the international race to achieve self-sufficiency, especially after the Corona pandemic and the international closures it witnessed. The United Arab Emirates was a forerunner in developing a comprehensive plan to achieve food security and sufficiency, and it quickly appointed the first female food security minister in the world.
The country's future food security file aims to conduct more research, develop plans and apply modern technologies in this field. The Kingdom of the Netherlands has great practical experience in this sector, as it occupies an advanced position globally in the agricultural sector, equipment and modern agricultural technology, in addition to its national commitment to sustainable agriculture since 2000.
There is no doubt that agriculture and interest in its water and climate resources are key factors to the Dutch advancement in this field. And therefore, the Netherlands supports and is keen to provide organizations to train and advise farmers, as well as provide farmers with the finest types of seeds. In addition, it continually supports agricultural research through the most important Dutch universities and educational centers specialized in research and studies related to the agricultural and water sector, such as the University and Research Center Wageningen and HAS University, as well as the UNESCO-IHE Institute specialized in the fields of water, environment and infrastructure.
The Netherlands has also demonstrated its effectiveness in satellite monitoring as a way to help farmers better cope with climate change and adapt to its different patterns by making use of science and digital technology.
As an example, the Geodata Agriculture and Water Program- (G4AW) is a program developed by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs which assists seed producers in Ethiopia. And by converting geographic data such as satellite data into climate and weather related information and analyzing it to provide them with the necessary advice and alerting them of the expected dangers and how to benefit fromin a timely manner.
Consequently, because
knowledge exchange is one of the most important elements of success, the Dutch
experience in this context counts as one of the richest experiences that must
be benefited from, and the Netherlands should be taken as a partner for
cooperation in helping to achieve the rational national vision.
