The UAE Government had started the National Disinfection Programme on 26 March 2020. Initially, the programme was to run for two weeks and could be extended. People were advised to stay home from 8pm until 6am each day and not to step out during these hours, unless for food and medical necessities or to perform essential jobs in vital pre-identified sectors. Later, on 4 April 2020, the Government extended the programme to an indefinite period, to be determined based on regular assessments. Government also granted the local authorities in each emirate to draw up their own respective plans for sanitisation and curfew hours. Accordingly, Dubai Government extended the restrictions to all day and night unless someone is stepping out for food, medicines, COVID-19 tests or for working in vital sectors between 8am and 2pm. This restriction will be in place for two weeks from 4 April.
The UAE disinfected public facilities, public transport and streets several times since the outbreak of COVID-19. These activities were conducted under the ‘National Disinfection Programme’.
As the UAE safely and steadily recovers from COVID-19, the ‘National Disinfection Programme’ has been halted. However, you must continue to wear a mask, sanitise your hands often and maintain a physical distance of at least six feet from others in public areas.
Information about disinfection will be updated as per schedules released in the press/media.
