Masdar—Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company—was established in 2006 through Mubadala Investment Company to diversify the UAE’s economy and accelerate the global deployment of renewable energy. In 2022, Masdar entered a new ownership structure bringing together three leading UAE energy companies: Mubadala, ADNOC and TAQA.
Today, Masdar is a global clean energy leader, helping position the UAE at the forefront of the global energy transformation. Its activities encompass utility-scale and distributed renewable energy, including solar, onshore and offshore wind, geothermal energy, energy storage, green hydrogen and innovative clean-energy technologies.
Masdar has developed and partnered in projects with a combined portfolio capacity exceeding 65 gigawatts across more than 20 countries. The company is pursuing a target of 100 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
Its portfolio includes major international projects and acquisitions across the Middle East, Europe, the United States, Central Asia, Africa and the Asia-Pacific region. Masdar is also developing the world’s first gigascale round-the-clock renewable energy project in Abu Dhabi, combining a 5.2-gigawatt solar photovoltaic plant with a 19-gigawatt-hour battery energy storage system to deliver up to one gigawatt of continuous baseload renewable power.
Through its Special Projects programme, Masdar also delivers smaller-scale renewable energy solutions to remote and underserved communities. These include solar, wind, microgrid and battery-storage projects across 16 Caribbean and 11 Pacific island countries, helping expand electricity access, reduce reliance on imported fuels and strengthen energy resilience.
Masdar continues to scale its global operations through strategic partnerships, investment and innovation. To support its expansion to 100 gigawatts by 2030, the company plans to deploy approximately USD 30–35 billion in equity and project finance.
