The National Climate Adaptation Plan is divided into three parts to ensure clear and targeted outcomes, which can be put into action easily by policy-makers, businesses and the wider society. These three parts are:
- identifying climate trends and assess their impacts on
- food
- natural ecosystems
- business and wealth
- health
- water management
- tourism
- trade and logistics
- electricity and energy
- infrastructure
- identifying impacts that demand urgent action; impact include:
- increased demand on water and electricity due to increased temperature and humidity
- reduced seawater quality due to increased water temperature and acidity
- coastal erosion due to various climate impacts
- increased pressure on food supply and production
- lost productivity and higher health costs due to increases in heat stress, allergies and infectious diseases
- involving all sectors in implementation of the plan to:
- address urgent impacts and seize opportunities
- utilise and build on existing capacity and knowledge
- embed adaptation within policy
- increase awareness on why adaptation is important
- encourage climate adaptation measures
- monitor progress and effectiveness.
