Ten Emirati projects compete at
the WSIS project prizes
The UAE Smart Government App Store
has been highly rated by users since its
official launch on March 27, according to
a survey by “Gulf News” local newspaper.
Users were satisfied with the idea of de
-
veloping the store and the services pro-
vided through it.
The app store, which contains 100 gov-
ernment apps offering 700 customer ser
-
vices, has gained a high rating before
even completing its first month on the
Google Play Store for Android smart
-
phones. The average rating was hover-
ing around 4.7 on a 5-star scale.
The rating could go up as more users
rate the store in the future.

the Telecommunication Regulatory Au

thority (TRA).
TRA urged members of the public to vote
for the nominated government initiatives
and projects to win the WSIS Project Priz

es 2014, which ends on 18 April 2014.
Ten UAE projects passed phase one of the
WSIS where selection is made by experts
and judging panels in the International
Telecommunication Union (ITU). Winning
projects in the second and final phase are
selected by the audience according to the
number of votes for each of the shortlisted
projects in the various categories.
The prizes are a prominent feature of this
international event. They aim to award
and honor the IT distinguished projects
and people for their continuous efforts in
implementing the recommendations is-
sued by the WSIS in 2003 and 2005.
The 18 categories include ICT applications
in the areas of e-commerce, e-agriculture,
e-learning, e-science, and e-environment
category; capacity building category; in-
ternational and regional co-operation cat-
egory; building confidence and security in
the use of ICT sector category; and the
role of governments and all stakeholders
in the promotion of ICT sector for develop-
ment category.
The ten projects representing the UAE are
as follows:
1- The UAE Mobile Government present

Authority (TRA) for the promotion of the
ICT sector.
2- The Mohammed Bin Rashid Smart
learning project in the capacity building
category.
3- Sustain agriculture sector in Abu Dhabi
through smart irrigation system by Abu
Dhabi Food Control Authority for the ICT
applications: e-agriculture.
4- eMart by Dubai Land Department for
the ICT applications: e-commerce.
5- Wide Area Application Services by Abu
Dhabi Education Council for the informa
