25% foreseen growth in

household smart technology

in 2015

Household smart technology has

grown between 20%-25% in 2014 in

the UAE market, according to a survey

by Eurostar Group.

Eurostar Group expects household

smart technology to grow by the same

rate this year. This growth is coupled

by growing consumer awareness, in-

crease in their needs and aspirations

and urban development that relies to-

day on higher luxurious standards to

attract buyers.

Youssef Saidi, the Group Chief Operat-

ing Officer (COO), said that household

smart technology and the integrated

system of devices and their operating

systems have emerged in the global

and domestic markets nearly six years

ago. Such technology was initially per-

ceived by only a few, yet it is achieving

its full potential today.

He further added that household smart

technology has particularly grown over

the past two years along with the increas-

ing use of smartphones, tablets and

smart household devices by consumers.

This led them search for a system

that is compatible with their

smart devices, hence, the

focus on smart house-

hold technology. He expects

household smart technology

to grow by 100% over the

coming three years in the do-

mestic market and the GCC in general.

Al Saidi pointed out that since telecom-

munications providers in the UAE (du

and Etisalat) have become also provid-

ers of such technology and services,

this has contributed in the remarkable

growth of such technology in the UAE

market. Real estate developers have

also sought to include such technol-

ogy in the residential units offered in

the market as a type of luxury to attract

buyers. It is no surprise then that this

technology has grown by 25% over the

past year and is expected to achieve a

similar growth rate this year.

He said that the concept of smart

homes and compatible devices needs

to be further promoted among consum-

ers. He noted that a large percentage

of customers have opted for smart

devices rather than traditional satel-

lite broadcasting equipment, as they

provide new services such as con-

tent

recording,

displaying

more than

one channel

and allowing

operation on

multiple de-

vices.
