In one of the biggest participation sessions of the UAE Government held in September 2017, the UAE Cabinet announced that it would hold a nation-wide meeting for representatives of all UAE government entities every year at the federal and local levels to discuss challenges and strategies related to the country’s five-decade national development plan, known as annual ‘UAE Centennial 2071’.
The annual meetings aim at unifying government work at the federal and local level and discussing developmental issues at all levels and in attendance of the decision makers. The meetings also aim at participation of the various sectors in shaping the development vision of the UAE until the UAE Centennial 2071. A large number of federal authorities and local departments of all emirates will attend the annual meetings, which will include workshops and discussions about the national KPIs for Vision 2021.
The UAE Government’s annual meetings encompassed meetings of the Cabinet, 5 federal councils, and various national and local committees. Three national retreats focused on national identity, family, and artificial intelligence, complemented by 8 sessions for UAE government leaders and local entities.
Over 10 main sessions showcased upcoming national directions in key areas such as economy and investment, AI, education and sports, and family and community empowerment. The annual meetings saw the launch of strategic projects and national initiatives that chart a path of future development, including the National Investment Strategy 2031, a polar research project, as well as a package of community initiatives valued at AED 500 million among others.
It also saw the launch of the National Anti-Drug Strategy, the ratification of 22 international agreements pertaining to various areas of priority, as well as MoUs with 17 countries. Other outcomes included the launch of the Young Government Leaders Program, and the signing of an agreement between the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, and Siemens, to initiate phase one of the project to reduce energy and water consumption in federal government buildings through retrofitting buildings that are energy and water intensive.
