The
UAE Government was always determined to make all its services
accessible to all through the easiest and fastest possible ways, there-
fore, it continues to utilize all means of technology and communication for the
benefit of the country and its people.
This edition throws light on the UAE Government YouTube Channel launched by
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice-President
and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai. Sheikh Mohammed stressed that the
“federal government wants to take its services to people before they come to it.
It wants to cut down distances and save time in all the services provided for both
Emiratis and residents.”
The Channel is the first official platform on YouTube to offer explanation of the
federal government services and it will play an important role in the easy access
to these services.
In a survey on DEWA’s app, users ranked the app as one of the best smart gov-
ernment services in the country, citing the comprehensive services it features.
Users explained that the app offers most services needed by DEWA’s custom-
ers, but at the same time, they outlined some weaknesses that need to be ad-
dressed.
Seeking a more comprehensive event coverage supported by video recordings,
this issue introduces the “QR”; a new section that summarizes some videos on
YouTube. Articles addressed the mGovernment services supported with a “QR”
code that allows readers to access the video by scanning the code using their
smartphones.
In a TV interview, Hamad ObeidAl Mansouri, the Director General of UAE mGov-
ernment at the TRA, discussed the formation of a government team who will
implement a national plan to achieve the UAE smart government goals.
One more video presents the mGovernment documentary film, which features
examples of smart government services that can be used on land, in air and at
sea. In another documentary film, the General Directorate of Residency and For-
eigners Affairs – Dubai introduced its most prominent smart services.
This edition also contains a report on the smart cities and knowledge building, in
which IT academicians and experts regarded that building successful smart cit-
ies that achieve the desired goals relies on human resources development and
non-reliance on the import of knowledge and technology, but rather producing
them locally.
This issue also sheds light on the “Arab Knowledge Economy Report 2014”,
which aims to research and examine the components and characteristics of the
Arab Knowledge Economy and its contribution to the overall development of the
region’s economy.
According to the report the UAE topped the Knowledge Economy Index among
Arab countries and stood at 42 globally with a score of 6.94.
In the “lab.com” section, we review the official website of the General Authority of
Civil Aviation, which the Authority utilizes to realize its mission in organizing and
controlling the safety, security and environment of the civil aviation in the UAE.
