UAE heads Studies Committee Meeting …Hamad Al Mansoori:
IoT transforms smart cities
and Telecommunication is
the nervous system
UAE represented by the General
Authority
for
Regulating
Telecommunications Sector headed the
second meeting of Studies Committee No
20 concerned in Internet of Things IoT and
smart cities affiliated with International
Telecommunication Union ITU hosted
by Infocomm Development Authority of
Singapore.
The committee headed by Eng. Naser Al
Marzuqi, UAE representative in ITU. This
committee receives international interest
in which Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Russian
Federation, Japan, Spain, South Korea,
Argentina, Italy, and China occupy vice-
chairman positions.
Inthiscontext,HEHamadObaidAlMansoori,
Director General of the General Authority for
Regulating Telecommunications Sector said
that IoT represents future of international
trends in smart cities and governments. This
concept includes universal technological,
social, economic, and legal implications.
He added that here UAE is so interested
in this matter especially under great
transformations UAE witnesses at smart
citiesandgovernments.Wearehonoredthat
UAE is the chairman of this international
committee which reflects the UAE position
in ITU.
He also added that in General Authority
for Regulating Telecommunication Sector,
we further work to ensure that the nervous
system is active and responsive to gigantic
projects requirements in this regard such as
smart Dubai and Masdar.
A forum on the margin of the meeting was
conducted about IoT and smart cities under
a new era for smarter life”
The Studies Committee 20 chairman
made a presentation on the most
significant results of Studies Committee
20. The committee assumes responsibility
for developing international standards
to enable development of IoT including
smart cities and communities.
The committee presented to the second
meeting more than 92 contributions
in which more than 150 participants
from ITU member states, international
and regional organizations, and invited
experts. The General Authority for
Regulating Telecommunications Sector
and Etisalat participated from UAE which
headed Studies Committee work team.
ITU is a United Nation Agency for ICT. ITU
role is represented as a global focal point
for governments and private sectors in
assisting the world communication,
which consists of three main
sectors radio communication and
communication standardization
and development.
ITU is headquartered in
Geneva – Switzerland has a
membershipof193countries
and almost 700 private-
sector
entities
and
academic institutions.
ITU celebrated this
year
its
150th
anniversary.
