Facebook started testing a new virtual assistant, M, on its Messenger
app. M competes with Apple’s Siri and Microsoft’s Cortana.
David Marcus, vice president of messaging products at Facebook,
said, that they started testing a new services called M, a digital
personal helper on Messenger app, that performs tasks and
finds information.
Marcus said that in addition to using artificial intelligence to
complete its tasks, M is powered by actual people, unlike
other similar services in the market. For example, M can
make restaurant reservations, order birthday flowers
or arrange for travel and schedule appointments.
Over the past few years, major technology
companies in the USA have launched personal
assistant services that respond to voice
instructions, such as Apple’s Siri, Google’s
Now and Microsoft’s Cortana.

Challenging Siri and Cortana
YouTube has launched a dedicated ser-
vice for gamers, YouTube Gaming, in an
attempt to compete with Amazon-owned
Twitch.
YouTube Gaming will be available as a
website globally and will also have mo-
bile apps. Users can view live stream or
on-demand and can view critics’ reviews
of new games.
YouTube announced the gaming plat-
form in June and was displayed at the
Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Los
Angeles. It has not been announced yet
when it will be released to the public.
