team will not stop in early 2015. The tran-
sition into smart government shall con-
tinue until we achieve top global ranks on
competitiveness indexes over the coming
years across various fields. People’s hap-
piness is our current goal, which should
be in line with the UAE Vision 2021.
What role does TRA play in supporting
the mGovernment initiative?
TRA generally provides the telecommuni-
cations infrastructure which any program
for e-transition or m-transition relies upon.
Over the past ten years, we, at TRA, are
pleased to have laid the foundations of
a telecommunications infrastructure that
can keep par with advanced infrastruc-
tures in developed countries.
The UAE is ahead of other countries
in the GCC in announcing the mobile
government, then smart cities like
Dubai, does TRA has a role in that?
Though the concept of smart cities dif-
fers from that of smart government but
they are interrelated. In fact, the digital or
smart age in which the UAE is venturing
includes many interrelated concepts such
as big data, mobile phone technology,
the Internet of Things, smart economy,
etc. All these concepts rely on one infra-
structure namely the ICT infrastructure.
TRA’s vision states, “The UAE is a
global leading country in ICT,” what is
the plan TRA is following to achieve
this goal?
We are following a strategic plan inspired
by the UAE Vision 2021. We set an agen-
da with clear milestones and features to
achieve the requirements of the national
agenda, with leadership and competitive-
ness at its core.
Let me point out here that TRA is com-
missioned with following up on the gov-
ernment service development on national
agendas. It clause states the need for the
UAE to be a global leading country with
regard to e-services and smart services
that the government offers to the people.
What are the accomplishments that
will be highlighted by TRA during the
Gitex Technology Week 2014?
TRA will provide a number of smart gov-
ernment initiatives and will host platforms
of other federal government entities that
will provide smart solutions and services.
Gitex Technology Week 2014 will be
a live demonstration of advanced and
promising milestones on the smart transi-
tion process.
For the first time, I announce here on
mGov that TRA mobile app will be un-
veiled during Gitex. The app shall be use-
ful for all age groups.
It will offer multiple services such as veri-
fying fake and uncertified devices, report-
ing spam texts, lodging complaints and
checking domain names.
TRA app will also allow blocking and un-
blocking sites and reporting areas with no
coverage. The app will be user-friendly
and will be available on iOS for iPhones
and iPads, Android, BlackBerry and Win-
dows 8.
