The UAE competitiveness train is racing
against time towards realizing the UAE
Vision 2021
T
he UAE is con idered a global model for its development vision that is citizen-centric, which put
it in the first place in several competitiveness indicators at regional and global levels. This an
inevitable result of the wise policy adopted by its prudent leadership and the harmony witnessed
between its government and people. No doubt, the development indicators are the compass guiding
the wise government throughout its development march as they determine the means and the speed
of the progress as well as the areas and pace for the development process.
UAE’s consistent advancement on the
competitiveness ladder reflects its ability
to realize its vision which is mainly based
on innovation, creativity and the knowl-
edge economy, being boosters to its com-
petitiveness and embodiment of its clear
vision that aims to shape the future as it
is the engine that spins its growth wheel.
Obviously, the UAE’s economic stability
and the continuous development in ar-
eas of infrastructure quality, education,
creativity and innovation were behind the
achievements it realized according to the
Global Competitiveness Report (GCR)
2014-2015 of the World Economic Forum
(Davos) in which the UAE advances 7
places in the overall competitiveness of its
economy within just one year, becoming
the 12th most competitive nation globally.
Jumping 7 positions reflects the unrelent-
ing work by the UAE’s government that
led to such constant advancement on the
global competitiveness indicators.
It also represents the massive speed at
which the country’s competiveness train
is moving in few years of its start reach-
ing points many advanced and developing
countries find difficulty in reaching at such
pace that requires decades to achieve.
The ranks achieved by the UAE in this
race over the past years shows that the
country’s competitiveness train is moving
faster than sound becoming very close
to realize the goal outlined by the gov-
ernment’s vision 2021 seeking to place
the UAE among the best countries in the
world six years ahead of the schedule.
Undoubtedly, such advanced position
achieved by the UAE was not realized
by luck, but as a result of unremitting ef-
forts based on sound foundations and as
a fruits of deliberations, justice, rule of law
and the wise economic methodology. It is
the outcome of human empowerment and
the controlled openness to the world and
the balanced foreign relationships.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin
Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and
Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of
Dubai stressed that the UAE under the
leadership of the President His Highness
Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan is
constantly making progress across all
development indicators. “Our economy is
constantly evolving; security and stability
indicators are among the best in the world;
the welfare of our citizens is our first prior-
ity,” Sheikh Mohammed said.
“The UAE government is constantly moni-
toring these global indicators issued by
reputable international organizations.
Retreating is not an option in our govern-
ment,” His Highness added.
Sheikh Mohammed remarks came in the
wake of the results of the GCR 2014- 2015
(Davos) in which the UAE came ahead
of countries such as Denmark, Canada
and South Korea. The UAE impressively
leads globally in a number of indicators:
1st globally in quality of the roads and the
absence of organized crime, 1st globally
for having the lowest rate of inflation, 2nd
