Abu Dhabi Police Youth Council and Abu Dhabi Center for Technical and Vocational Education and Training held a group discussion for youth titled ‘Youth and Internet Security’. It was held at Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi.
The discussion touched upon a number of topics pertaining to cyber security. Topics included cyber security, challenges, personal security and smart gadgets. The participants also discussed a number of issues related to youth and their challenges to enhance cyber security and to find a safe cyber environment in which they can work, learn and grow without being subjected to hacking, blackmailing and other cybercrimes.
With more than 4,000 young men and women, the number of attendees at the consultation set a new world record. This is the largest number of people under 30 years that participated in a group discussion on cyber security.
Abu Dhabi Police proposed to form awareness teams to teach students about risks of internet and social media use and ways to protect themselves from these risks. These teams shall provide students with information about developed solutions and programmes to protect them from internet risks. The youth suggested a number of solutions related to technological development, cyber security, cyber risks and threats, cyber hacking and use of the internet. Some youth proposed that more rules should be passed to be in line with continuing development of information system and protect new generations from cybercrimes.
Abu Dhabi Police will study suggestions and ideas proposed by the young participants in the discussion and take necessary procedures to execute them. It will form awareness teams to teach students about risks of internet and social media use and ways to protect themselves from these risks. It will publish the decision it will take based on these discussions.
