The litigation procedures in the UAE are governed by federal laws and depend on whether the case is of civil or criminal nature.
Federal Law No. 11 of 1992, as amended by Law No. 10 of 2014 (PDF) concerning the Civil Procedural Law regulates the method, procedures and jurisdiction for litigations in civil, commercial and personal status lawsuits. It establishes the method of appealing and executing the judgements.
While the Federal Law No. 35 for 1992, as amended by Law No. 29 of 2005 and Law No. 35 of 2006 concerning the Criminal Procedural Law describes the method and procedures for criminal investigation, the trial of the accused, rendering judgement, conditions for appealing judgement at upper courts and the enforcement of judgement.
