Banning private ownership of dangerous animals
It is prohibited for individuals to own, possess, breed or trade in dangerous animals.
Only zoos, animal parks, circuses, breeding centres, specialised care and harbouring centres, and scientific research centres and institutions whose work requires the availability of dangerous animals, are allowed to keep dangerous animals.
An individual may own a dog of an approved breed after obtaining a licence from the competent authority. However, the dogs must be on leash and an appropriate collar should be put around their necks when in public.

In addition, Federal Law No 16 of 2007 Concerning the Protection of Animals protects the rights and dignity of animals in the UAE.
