The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has issued the Guide for Governance of Work Experience for Students in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), including universities and vocational training institutions. The guide establishes a unified national framework for such work experience, defining the roles of institutions, providers and students while enhancing oversight and quality assurance and preventing improper work experience practices.
The guide ensures that work experience – previously known as practical training – becomes a core part of students’ academic journey, bridging theory and practice to prepare students for the labour market.
From an execution perspective, the Ministry – in collaboration with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) and the Emirati Talent Competitiveness Council, Nafis – launched the National Practical Training Platform for Higher Education Students in the UAE. Forming part of the Nafis platform, the new platform enables university students to register for high-quality practical training opportunities in the UAE labour market through an integrated digital environment. It also allows government and private-sector institutions and companies to post available training opportunities, cementing their role as key partners in the national practical training ecosystem.
The platform plays a key role in efforts to empower highly qualified generations with the practical experience and skills required in the labour market by enabling students to join high-level training programmes across various vital sectors. It enhances integration between theory and practice in the student journey and supports efforts to drive economic and knowledge-related development in the UAE.
Students, higher education institutions and entities involved in training can find more details about registration and participation by accessing the platform through Nafis at nafis.gov.ae.
Additionally, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has adopted the Clinical Training Guidelines in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Prevention and the National Institute for Health Specialties to define requirements for effective partnerships between higher education institutions and clinical training facilities, ensuring high-quality educational and practical experiences for health profession students.
The guidelines ensure clinical training governance, a core component of health professions education programmes. They provide a unified framework that integrates theoretical and practical aspects and reinforces the importance of clinical training as a bridge between academic education and labour market needs, contributing to graduating highly qualified healthcare professionals.
