The UAE was ranked 1st in the region and 17th globally in the 2023/2024 Human Development Report (PDF, 5.12MB), advancing by 9 places globally compared to the previous year.
The Human Development Report is a composite index that measures the wellbeing of people in 193 countries through three dimensions, which are:
- health
- knowledge
- living standards.
The index comprises four key indicators. They are:
- life expectancy at birth
- expected years of schooling
- average years of schooling
- per capita gross national income.
The UAE's overall score improved to 0.937, a 0.026-point increase from the previous year. The UAE's life expectancy at birth reached 79.2 years, contributing to the third sustainable development goal (SDG) - good health and wellbeing.
The expected years of schooling indicator was 17.2 years, and the average years of schooling was 12.8 years, aligning with the fourth goal of the SDGs - quality education. The gross national income per capita reached USD 74.104.
The Human Development Report is issued annually by United Nations Development Programme since 1990.
