The Senior Citizens’ Protection Specialists programme’ aims to train specialists to protect and take better care of senior citizens, and address the challenges they may face in their daily lives.
The programme includes six main themes focusing on the following:
- providing judicial information and the activities of the judicial order, and rulings and the competencies and powers of judicial officers in protecting senior citizens
- raising awareness on the legal framework concerning the rights of senior citizens and the United Nations Principles for Older Persons
- providing sustainable welfare, including medical follow-up and aftercare, assessing their surroundings to ensure their safety, and reporting cases of abuse and violence
- managing the economic and financial challenges faced by them; by understanding their source/s of income, ensuring correct financial management, and avoiding the misuse of their resources
- supporting their mental health, understanding the changes they undergo, and the common health disorders that affect them
- enhancing their physical health by developing their sensory and motor abilities.
Launched by Ministry of Community Development, in collaboration with the Judicial Training Institute of Ministry of Justice, this programme is delivered by experts and specialists from various authorities in the UAE, along with the participation of several government entities.
