In order to ensure achieving the ambitious sustainability goals of the National Energy Strategy and the UAE Water Security Strategy, the Ministry of Energy and Industry (MoEI) is mandated to develop a UAE National Demand Side Management program. In March 2021, the National Program for Energy and Water Demand Side Management was launched with the aim of unifying efforts, especially in the field of energy and water efficiency.
The National Water and Energy Demand Management Programme targets 40 per cent energy efficiency of the three most energy-consuming sectors in the UAE: transport, industry and built environment. It also targets 50 per cent water efficiency in the two most water-consuming sectors: agriculture and built environment.
The programme includes three main pillars: energy, water and National Conservation Campaign.
Several initiatives will be launched to reduce energy consumption and realise the following targets by 2050:
The programme combines all stakeholders in the UAE to realise the objectives of the UAE Energy Strategy 2050 and UAE Water Security Strategy 2036.
